The European Championship is the most prestigious event of the EGC. Only the best 32 European players can participate, using the European Championship System, to decide the best Go player for 2024. The Open European Championship is the largest tournament of the European Go Congress. Everybody can participate, including players from outside Europe. You just have to register for it. Don’t forget to confirm your participation at the infodesk upon your arrival. There will be one game per day, starting in the morning. The participants of the European Championship join this tournament at the latest in the second week. All games of the European Championship, besides the semifinals and finals, also count for the Open Championship. The tournament is EGF-ranked and there are nice prizes to win, not only for the top players, but for anybody with a good tournament performance.

The system: best 8 teams play a three-round knockout (quarterfinal, semi final, finals + small finals).
All other teams play the open section.
Team composition:
- Teams are composed of between 5 and 8 players. Each round 5 players play.
- Each team must include at least a female player and a youth player (U21, so up to 20 years old) at each round, a single player cannot fullfil both of these requirements.
- Countries can have full national teams or they can choose another country to form a team.
- To play for a specific country, players must have the country’s residency or nationality.
- Professional players are allowed to play.
- All 5 boards are ordered by rating, professional players must play in the top boards and can order freely among them.
- A team level is computed by averaging the 5 top players level. In this regard professional players count as 8 dan.
Tournament organization (top section and open section):
- The 8 strongest teams play in the top section in a cup tournament, eliminated teams join the open section.
- Other teams play in the open section, the open section is played using a MacMahon system.
- Only national team (not mixed teams) can play in the top section.
- Each country can have a single team in the top section, the other teams play in the open section.
- Non-European team can participate in the top section.
Prizes: There are prizes for the best 3 teams in the top section and the best team of the open section that was not in the top section at the beginning of the tournament and the best European team in the top section.

The Pair Go tournament is another highlight of the European Go Congress. This tournament is open to mixed-gender pairs, with an average rank lower or equal to 5.5 dan (in this respect, professionals count as 8-dan). There will be independant level group, based on the average rank of the pair, and the winners in each group will be rewarded.

- Maximum 128 pairs can register
- Maximum average rank is 5.5 dan (in this respect, professionals count as 8-dan)
- Registrations end on Thursday 01/08 at 12 pm
- Players must have an EGD rank, or play in the main tournament, to register
- All pairs MUST confirm their participations on Thursday between 15 pm and 16:15 pm
Rules International Pair Go rules by default
- Time Setting: Fischer Time 25 min + 10 sec
- No handicap

- Women play first
- No speaking except for : warn of the remaining time, ask whose turn it is, ask if partner wants to resign
- If an unintentional error on the order of moves occurs, and the error is spotted before an other move is played, a three points penalty is given
- If the error is intentional, the referee can decide to forfeit the game
Tournament
There will be groups of 16 pairs, based on the average rank of the pair, except for the lowest group, which can contain 16 to 31 pairs. In each group there will be a qualification stage on Thursday, and a knockout stage on Friday. The podium of each group will be rewarded during the prize giving ceremony on Sunday.
Qualification stage
For the groups with 16 pairs, all the pairs with 2 wins will qualify to the knockout stage. The pairs with 2 wins or 2 loses don’t play the third round. There will be 8 pairs qualified in each group. For the lowest group (if it has more than 16 pairs) there will be a Swiss tournament in 3 rounds. The 8 best pairs will be qualified for the knockout stage. Criteria to sort the pairs are : NbW, SOS, DC, Rank.
Knockout stage
Classic knockout stage with quarter finals, semi finals, and final. There will be no match for the 3rd place, both teams who lose in the semi final finish at 3rd place.

The second SEYGO tournament of Season Six of Saijo European Youth Go Tour project will be played in Toulouse, France, on July 26-27 (Friday and Saturday), parallel to Pandanet Teams Finals, finishing just before the opening of the 66th European Go Congress.
It will be a five rounds tournament for players aged 18 or younger. Players born in 2006 and later shall play as U18, and players born in 2012 and later shall play as U12. The tournament begins as a regular Open tournament (both U12 and U18 players playing in the same tournament) with Knock-Out phases, separate for U12 and for U18, starting in the most appropriate round. At the end, we will have clear winners, runner-up and the third place for each age group. The winners will be awarded with medals and vouchers.
Schedule: 3 rounds on Friday, July 26, 2024, 2 rounds on Saturday, July 27, 2024 Time Setting: basic time: 45 minutes + 20 seconds increment per move (Fischer time)
All players who registered for the European go congress are not paying the SEYGO participation fee. All players who play “SEYGO tournament only” shall pay the fee before the start of the tournament: 20 EUR for players with EGD rating = 2000 or higher, 15 EUR for players with EGD rating between 1000 and 1999, 10 EUR for players with EGD rating lower than 1000.
